14 new homes complete at Purdon Street for Partick Housing Association

Hadden Group and Partick Housing Association (PHA) is pleased to announce the completion of their latest new housing supply project at Purdon Street in the heart of Glasgow’s West End.

This redeveloped 4-storey block of 14 affordable new homes provides a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom flats for social rent.  Tenants have recently moved in and love their new homes in the heart of Partick, close to local amenities.

Partick HA Chief Executive, Stewart MacKenzie said: “We’re delighted to complete our latest new development in Partick and welcome tenants to their wonderful new homes.”

One new tenant explained that he had lived in Purdon Street before it was redeveloped. As he collected his keys he said: “I was here for twenty five years.  I feel like I’ve come back home again, I’m very happy to be here.  This place is like an oasis in the middle of Partick – quiet and peaceful.”

Partick HA Chair, Alan Howie added: “We’re pleased to have successfully completed these new homes at Purdon Street, during what have been challenging times.  Many thanks to the Council, our partners and the local community for their continuing support.  At Partick Housing Association, we’re committed to providing more quality affordable homes to meet local housing needs and are working on a series of ambitious new housing supply projects across the West End.”

Councillor Kenny McLean, City Convener for Neighbourhoods, Housing and Public Realm at Glasgow City Council, said:  “It is great to see new and high-quality affordable homes being built in Partick, and these flats help meet the need for such housing in this part of Glasgow.  The Council is delighted to have supported this development, which is yet another example of partnership working in Glasgow bringing new and improved homes to communities across the city.”

The building was converted for Partick Housing Association by Hadden Group, who were successfully appointed from the Scottish Procurement Alliance Framework.  The design was undertaken by MAST Architects and Clyde Design Partnership, with Quantity Surveying and Principal Designer services provided by Reid Associates.  The project was financed by Partick Housing Association, together with grant funding from Glasgow City Council.

The existing four storey property owned by Partick Housing Association was formally a day care centre and temporary accommodation until November 2019 when GCC ended their lease.

The completed development comprises 14 new general needs flats within the existing building, split between three new closes, with one flat accessed at the rear of the building. The existing building fabric has also been enhanced with additional and upgraded insulation to provide warmer, more efficient homes for the tenants. Externally, landscaping works have also been carried out to update the enclosed communal area at the rear of the building and provide garden space to the three rear ground floor flats.
