Brand New Tayport Community Hub. Coming 2019!

Another exciting project for the team at Hadden Group. We are delighted that Tayport Community Trust have confirmed the construction of the Community Hub will begin in July 2018 with a scheduled opening in June 2019. We celebrated the beginning of construction with a “ground-breaking” ceremony joined by the very excited children from Tayport Primary School. The children took part in the ceremony by planting three trees which are there to symbolise the long-term enhancement this project will bring to the community of Tayport.

We have learned that the idea of a Community Hub was first considered 50 years ago. Plans began in 1994 when the Tayport Community Sports Action group was founded. The Tayport Community Trust took on the responsibility of the plans in 2008, and since then notable milestones have led steadily towards the target of completion. In 2016, the Shanwell Road site was purchased with help from the Scottish Land Fund, and the following year the Steel Fabrication Factory was demolished with the help from SUEZ. This very visible sign of progress paved the way for Tayport Community Trust’s successful application into the Big Lottery Fun for £1.2M, with this they then worked to raise the other £1.1M. After some frantic fundraising, Tayport Community Trust and the community were successful in raising another £2.7M, increasing the capital costs of the project.

Here at Hadden, we are very pleased to announce that we have been selected as the main contractor for the Hub project. The new multipurpose centre will be owned and managed by the community of Tayport. The design, by Collective Architecture, has evolved through extensive consultations with the community of Tayport and user groups over the last 5 years. The building will be versatile and fully accessible for all with an inhouse café which will provide a community meeting space and facilities for arts, sports, tourism and business.

The Hub will also be flanked by a camping and caravanning site which will further enhance Tayport as a tourist destination, complement other activities in North-East Fife, plus generate revenue to support the Tayport Community Trust’s activities and programmes. In combination, the Hub and the camping and caravanning site will provide opportunities for education, training, work experience and the creation of new jobs. Therefore, this will build on the success of Tayport Community Trust established projects, such as: the Harbour Café (a social enterprise) and Tayport Community Garden (run by the Trust’s gardening group PLANT).

Please see: Tayport Community Hub for more details on these.
