Seven new Council-built bungalows in Rattray were officially opened today by Housing and Health Convener Councillor Dave Doogan.

The one-bedroom bungalows at Old Mill Road were handed over to the Council for letting to new tenants a few weeks ago. They have been built to provide much-needed affordable accommodation for this area of Perth and Kinross.

The bungalows are part of the Council’s ongoing house-building programme which has delivered around 200 new Council homes in the last three years, many of which were build by Hadden Construction. Properties have been constructed in Methven, Scone, Alyth, Inchture, Blairgowrie, Auchterarder and Perth. Many more are in the pipeline.

The new Rattray units have been built nearby to 15 refurbished Council houses in Old Mill Road which were brought back into use for new tenants last year. The Council made the decision to renovate these properties after they had lain vacant for a number of years and were proving to be difficult to let. They now provide high-quality accommodation for tenants in a revitalised neighbourhood.

Funding for the bungalow development came from Perth & Kinross Council in partnership with the Scottish Government. The main contractor for the build was Perthshire based Hadden Construction.

Councillor Doogan visited Old Mill Road today. He said: “The investment we have made in this new housing along with the refurbishment of the existing Council houses has totally transformed this area of Rattray.

“Where before there were old, run-down and empty Council houses, we now have an area of high-quality affordable housing where people want to live. The regeneration of Old Mill Road is fantastic to see – it is now a vibrant and diverse local community. Rattray is a great area to live in and by building these bungalows and upgrading existing properties we hope Old Mill Road can now reach its full potential.

\"I’m delighted that these new bungalows are the latest addition to the list of new builds here in Perth and Kinross. As a Council we are determined to increase the level of social housing. We have made very good progress over the last three years through our house building programme, and a more extensive programme over the next few years will continue to deliver new homes for people right across our area. This is one of our key priorities.”

Scott Hadden, Chairman of Hadden Construction added: “We’re delighted to extend our excellent on-going working relationship with Perth & Kinross Council with the successful delivery of this much needed new housing for Rattray.”
