Work has started on a new nursery extension for Mid Calder Primary School, to replace the current building.

The new single storey nursery has been designed with children’s learning and play at the forefront, including distinctive rainbow coloured panels at the nursery entrance.

A new nursery playground and pedestrian access way to the school will also be created, with the current nursery building being demolished to make way for the improvements once the new building is completed.

Mid Calder Head Teacher Mary McKenzie said: “It’s an exciting time for Mid Calder Primary, as we look forward to the new nursery extension being completed.

“The £1 million extension will provide a fresh and modern setting for pre-school education, benefitting both pupils and staff alike.”

Depute Provost Dave King recently visited Mid Calder Primary to mark the start of the project, which is due to be completed by Summer 2017.

Councillor King added: “I’m delighted to see work start on the new £1 million replacement nursery for Mid Calder Primary.\"

The project is being managed by West Lothian Council’s Construction Services team with Hadden Construction carrying out the works.

Hadden Construction Chairman Scott Hadden commented: “We’re delighted to extend our excellent on-going working relationship with West Lothian Council with the construction of this new nursery which will be a fantastic asset for Mid Calder Primary School.”
