Perth & Kinross Council's multi-million pound programme of social housing construction took another major step forward with the successful completion of a development of 12 new one bedroomed flats in Pitlochry.

The new flats at Dalchampaig Court, Rie-Achan Road, will help to ease the need for affordable housing in Highland Perthshire.

The development has been delivered early - four months ahead of schedule.

The flats at Dalchampaig, like all of the Council's new homes, have been built with the latest energy saving specifications, to help cut the bills of tenants and reduce the carbon footprint of the Perth and Kinross area.

The housing was funded in part through a successful bid by the Council to the Scottish Government for £1,170,000 from its Innovation and Investment Fund. The Council made up the balance using its innovative Council Tax Fund on Second Homes and also from prudential borrowing, the cost of which will be met by rents generated by the new properties.

Housing & Health Convener, Councillor Dave Doogan, said: "I am delighted that this new development in Pitlochry has been delivered on budget and well ahead of schedule. Making more affordable homes available is crucial to meet the acute need for social housing in Perth and Kinross. As a Council we commit to deliver our key housing priorities of high quality homes in safe and secure neighbourhoods.

"These new properties have been built to the highest standard, and will transform the lives of the people who move in."

Council Leader, Councillor Ian Miller added: "The construction of new affordable Council housing for rent is a priority for this Council, and this development is a starting point in addressing the critical need in Highland Perthshire.
