Work is now complete on a new £1m nursery extension for Mid Calder Primary School, to replace the current building.

The new single storey nursery was designed with children’s learning and play at the forefront, including distinctive rainbow coloured panels at the nursery entrance.

A new nursery playground and pedestrian access way to the school was created, with the current nursery building being demolished to make way for the improvements once the new building was complete.

Depute Provost Dave King who recently visited Mid Calder Primary to mark the start of the project  said: “The brand new modern nursery will be a huge benefit to the Mid Calder Primary community, ensuring that our youngest pupils start their education journey in the best possible environment.

“Investment like this aims to make sure that West Lothian continues to have one of the best school estates in the country, with £65 million spent on education infrastructure improvements since 2012 and further £40 million planned over the next two years.”

Mid Calder Head Teacher Mary McKenzie added: “It’s an exciting time for Mid Calder Primary, as we look forward to the new nursery extension being completed.

“The £1 million extension will provide a fresh and modern setting for pre-school education, benefitting both pupils and staff alike.”

The project was managed by West Lothian Council’s Construction Services team with Hadden Construction carrying out the works.

Hadden Construction Chairman Scott Hadden commented: “We’re delighted to extend our excellent on-going working relationship with West Lothian Council with the construction of this new nursery which will be a fantastic asset for Mid Calder Primary School.”
