This extension and refurbishment of an existing sports hall is named after one of the city’s most famous sporting heroes Dick McTaggart, an Olympic Gold Medallist at the 1956 Melbourne Games.

The building has been fullly refurbished and re-fitted as a gymnastics training facility.  The works included a full new roof, new changing rooms and viewing area, an air source heat pump,  the installation of a sunken pitted area and a new facade to the building.

Supported by a Sportscotland investment of £1.2 million this new Tayside and Fife Regional Gymnastics Facility  provides the home for the new regional centre for gymnasts at every level from absolute beginners to the region’s best talent.

Gymnastics is a priority sport for Dundee where participation levels are high but a lack of suitable facilities limited club development while aspiring gymnasts often had to train outside the region to gain access to the right facilities. All that is now set to change. The new centre which provides two sprung floor exercise areas, a wide range of gymnastic apparatus, a dance studio, changing rooms and a café will allow clubs to offer more disciplines to more young people, increasing participation in the sport.
