This RIAS Award winning high profile community based refurbishment of the fine art deco cinema in the centre of Aberfeldy in Perthshire was funded by a range of contributors including the Big Lottery and the Scottish Rural Development Fund.

The finished building features:

  • State of the art 101 seat cinema, which can also serve as a venue for live performances such as music, lectures, drama
  • Digital system for showing of up to date movies, including 3D, and a wide ranging programme tailored to different interests and age groups
  • Capacity for live broadcast links – sports, opera and other events from around the world
  • Café-bar open to all from morning to late evening.

This lively new addition to the Square will, it is hoped, be equally attractive to young and old alike.  As a community run enterprise, it will provide jobs and training, and by returning a much-loved Aberfeldy landmark to its original purpose, it will undoubtedly boost local businesses, bringing residents and visitors into town more frequently.

RIAS judges commented on the project “This substantial Art Deco historic cinema, long derelict, provides a new 100-seater auditorium and a café/bar generating life, engagement and a cultural focus within a property and a townscape which has been thoroughly reinvigorated.”
